Internet Marketing Success-5 Mistakes To Avoid
Mistake #1: Marketing to Your Friends and Family
Most network marketers are trained to follow this strategy right from the start as it is quite advantageous to an upline individual that has a significant downline sales team. MLM and direct sales Companies and their sales trainers love teaching this technique.
Why?
Because they believe that it is easy and the path of least resistance. Think about the exposure that’s generated for an upline individual when they have that many people under them making a list of 100, 200 or even 300 people.
That’s a heck of a lot of exposure!
They’re playing the averages. Most new associates will only bring in 2-3 reps in their lifetime with the company. Of course, those numbers won’t work too well for you if you are new. But it will work just fine for those who already have a massive downline.
My advice to you is to leave your friends and family alone. Don’t try to market your products or opportunity to
Your friends or family unless they are truly interested.
Instead, learn real prospecting techniques that will have you communicating with people who are already interested in what you have to offer.
Now, wouldn’t that be better than having to market to your friends and family?
Mistake #2: Buying Massive Amounts of Your Company’spromotional materials and Passing Them Out to potential prospects
Companies just love it when you purchase their product promotional materials. Think about it. You send your money to the company to purchase its marketing materials in order to advertise that same company’s products and opportunity.
If you purchase $100 of company promotional materials and you enroll just 1 new associate, the company made money on both ends of the transaction.
Promotional materials is just another profit center for your company when you purchase their stuff.
Now, of course, 1 new associate is not enough. You want more: right? So you’re encouraged to buy more of the company’s promotional materials.
Hey, that’s a great deal For the company, not you.
Here’s my advice. Stop buying these company produced materials. Save your money. There are many other more economical ways to get the message out about your business. We’ll be covering them soon.
For now though, we need to keep uncovering the mistakes. Then, we can go ahead and learn the right way to do things.
Mistake #3: Using 3-Way Calling
I know I’m going to catch a lot of heat for this one. Maybe you’ve done some 3-way calling in the past and it worked.
However, the fact is that most of the time it doesn’t work and it’s counter productive to building YOUR business.
Network marketing is a business. We both know that it is a legitimate business where companies use a sales force to market their products and services directly to consumers.
Think about it: what other legitimate business employs 3-way calling to sell their products or services?
When you go to a car dealership to purchase a car, does your salesman speak with you directly, answer your questions, take you out for a test drive, and then try to close the transaction himself? Of course, what would you think if he tried to do a 3-way call with his sales manager? What would think of him? I bet that you can’t even imagine that scenario.
That’s because doing a 3-way call would hurt his chances of making the sale. It would diminish your opinion of him as an expert or authority on what he’s marketing.
Regardless of the negative effects of doing a 3-way call, network marketers are taught to use this technique the moment they join a company. That’s why so many of them fail to grow a thriving business.
Here’s what you need to do:
*. Become an expert concerning your product
*. know what it is and how it works
- *. Know how it compares to your competition, both from a cost as well as a benefits perspective perspective
- *. Present a cost/benefits analysis
- *. Know the features and be able to answer prospect questions
- *. Know your company policies and procedures and be able to explain them to your prospect
- *. Know your compensation plan
- *. Coach your prospect how to be self-sufficient
- *. Treat your prospect as a viable team member rather than just a dollar sign.
This will all take some work and effort on your part. Are you willing? If so, the energy and time investment that you put in now will pay massive dividends in the future.
Mistake #4: Using Your Company Produced Website
as a Marketing Tool
The sites that the network marketing companies make available are called replicated websites. They’re called this because they are given out or sold to thousands and thousands of company reps. Although these sites are beneficial from a back-office perspective, they aare terrible sales and marketing tools. Search engines hate them because they provide no unique content and web surfers tend to ignore them because after doing a little searching, they see dozens of the same sites.
To be successful, your website needs to be constructed in a way that pleases both the search engines and your human visitors.
This is known as a branded website. A branded website should capture your visitors attention and compel him/her to take the action that you want them to take. Unfortunately, the typical replicated network marketing site will do neither of these things for you.
It’s not all bad news today however as these replicated sites are great for back-office funvtions and placing orders for your new and already existing customers. Therefore, I would not recommend getting rid of your company produced site.
Just use it in a way that helps your business rather than a way that hurts it.
We’ll be covering how to use the Internet to build your busines very soon. Be patient. We still need to cover one last mistake that network marketers make.
To be honest, this last one really gets me angry because I’ve fallen victim to it so many times in the past.
Want to know what it is?
Mistake #5: Believing that all you need to do to get filthy rich in network marketing is find 3 people who get 3 people who get 3 people etc
I have fallen for this one hook, line, and sinker once a twice before. Believe me, I learned. in all my years in network marketing, I have never met anyone who made it work that easily for themselves.
It is a MYTH! Do not believe it: not even for a minute.
This myth is mostly used as a recruiting tool by scam artists. The problem is that this formula sounds great and looks great on paper. It seems so easy!
The truth is that network marketing does not fit into a neat little 3 x 3, 4 x 4, or 5 x 5 matrix.
I wish it did but it doesn’t.
Okay. Let’s wipe away the tears. Get your chin up. We’ve got work to do, lots of work.
